VELYOVA BANYA

“VELYOVA BAÑA” is one of the most attractive cultural monuments in Velingrad. Located in the Ladzene district (the renovated park at the end of the pedestrian street), near the beginning of the “Khan Asparuh” avenue, on the right side of the Lukovitza river. The public bath dates from the year 1640. The first building has been small and unstable, but enough to cover the tank and the pool. The water from this fountain is warm.

In 1926 the bathroom building was renovated and rebuilt. Two bath establishments and dressing rooms have been built. The supply with mineral water comes from a spring located below the pools, since its water is evenly distributed by gravity in the two swimming pools and in the bathtubs in both compartments. In 1976 were added 2 rooms of pavilions with showers – for men and women.

The mineral water is characterized as natrium – sulphate – sodium – silicon – hydrocarbon – fluoride, with pH 9,8, temperature 43 0 C and mineralization of 335 mg / liter. It is used for medical treatment without cooling it. Through external applications, inhalations or when drinking, it is used to treat inflammatory or degenerative diseases. It is good for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, hepatobiliary, diseases of the joints, disorders of the peripheral nervous system, etc. Inhalation is applied for diseases of lungs and pathological processes of the upper respiratory tract. The mineral water is clear, colorless, odorless, with pleasant taste. Procedures are made in pools and in bathtubs.

 Application: It is drunk according to the doctor’s indication and under its supervision and control. Drink water 3-4 times a day 400-500 cc, sorbes slowly, usually before meals. For most of the treatments are enough 25-30 days. Treatment with drinking water should be combined with spa, diet, paraffin and others. In case of insufficient therapeutic effect, it is necessary to continue drinking the water after leaving the spa. In 2-3 months the procedures must be repeated.
