    In the area of ​​Dorkovo village was discovered a paleontological field, which was declared a benchmark on 31.01.1990. In the area of ​​Elin kládenets have been found skeletons of millions of years old mastodons – the oldest remains of these animals, discovered in Europe. Now there is the building of this unique museum.

    The village Dorkovo is 14 km from Velingrad. To visit the countryside, one must go to the village. From there begins an asphalt road leading to this landmark.

    Pliocene Park is a Paleontological Museum in Dorkovo village, Pazardzhik region, which features artifacts from the Pliocene era, discovered in the paleontological field “Elin kládenets”, near Dorkovo.

    This is the largest field, known to paleontologists, with a set of bones of more than 30 species of animals in one place. More than 600 bones have been found over an area of ​​15 m2. This is the largest paleontological site in the Balkans and the second most important exhibition in Europe. It marks the beginning of the geological era of the Pliocene in Eastern Europe. The museum was inaugurated on September 19, 2013.
