PARK – MUSEUM OF THE RHODOPE’S FOUNTAIN

The park – museum of the Rhodope’s fountain has an educational, cultural and cognitive role. It gives the possibility to each guest and visitor to approach a local artisanal art of big value, which reveals that the water is of great honor in the municipality of Dospat.

Water has been highly honored in the region since ancient times. This is demonstrated by the way of life, the beliefs, the tradition and  the folklore.

The municipality of Dospat is a crossroads – the end point of the Smolyan region and the starting point of the regions of Pazardzhik and Blagoevgrad. In the past there were no good roads and the movement has been very difficult, with horse carriages, loaded with the necessary products.

In the territory of Dospat the water is collected and extracted from natural springs. On the main roads and along the tourist infrastructure of Batak dam have been built various public buildings. Not in vain the name of Dospat means “friend of the road”. Every guest, traveler or passer-by can stop to rest, enjoy the wonderful nature and drink Dospat’s water. The water is cool in summer and temperate in other seasons.

The fountains are of a more diverse architectural style and with different number of spouts – one, two, three, up to twenty-four. The water is clean, cold and tastes good.

One of the traditions, as well as Dospat’s local craftsmanship, is to make public fountains. Because there are numerous sources in the region, each year is celebrated the Festival of Fountain Masterss, which coincides with the local traditional festivals of the Municipality.

The Park – Museum of the Rhodope Fountain is in unique modern architectural style. The visual art corresponds to the image of the municipality and is related to its history, connected with more than 250 sources in the Rhodopes. It symbolizes the traditional arts of building fountains. From a special panoramic corridor you can see samples of Rhodope and Dospat fountains – with one, two, three to twenty-four spouts; authentic and modern ones. The location of the park – museum of the Rhodope’s fountain is in a natural environment, as well as the fountains of Dospat, built by local artisans. Some are on main roads, some on earth roads and in the forest. The Municipality of Dospat welcomes with the fountains, the water, the dam, the trout, the nature and the air, the people and the Bulgarian cousine of fresh fish from Rhodopes.

Inside it carries the culture, lifestyle, craftsmanship and traditions of Dospat. Drinking water from a fountain spout, strolling through the park, the playground or in the midst of nature is a real pleasure for everyone passing by. It is worth stopping, resting and enjoying the fresh air, the panoramic views and the beautiful fountains of Dospat.
