Description
The church “St. Dimitar” is one of the few preserved monuments of the Renaissance in Bulgaria. It was built in the period from 1825 to 1831 by the famous builders of Péshtera Kuzman Michov and the great master Piter Kazov (Kazoolu).
It has three vaulting naves and a gallery. Construction technology is similar to the largest and representative buildings of the 19th century. The iconostasis is carved in 1910, but the icons are from the 19th century.
Especially valuable for their iconographic merits are the icons: “Virgin Odigitria” (17-18 century), “Great Archangelic Meeting” (1830), “San Dimitar” (19th century). Very original are the frescoes inside the temple. In the central dome is painted Christ, and in the altarpiece impress the rich compositions “Mary Shirshaya”, “The Annunciation” and some prophets of the Old Testament.
