Description
The Beglika Nature Reserve is located 14 km southwest of Batak town in the Rhodope Mountains. It was proclaimed a nature reserve in 1960, then with the name of Vasil Kolarov. Its total area is approximately 1,460 hectares. The main purpose of the reserve is to protect the ancient fir forests. It is considered that the average age of the trees is about 130 years, and its diameter reaches 80 cm. Many endemic plants grow here, such as Alpine astragalus, Rhodope violet, Rhodopus geum and many others. Visitors can walk only on the marked path.
